GENERATIVE AI IS THE NEW HOTNESS, BUT WHAT'S IT BEST AT?
Generative tools like ChatGPT and MidJourney seems to change the way the world thought about Ai overnight and new use cases for generative content started popping up everywhere. In a lot of situations, Ai was not yet up to the task. Confusing facts and fiction, including extra fingers, overall there was a high threshold for nonsense that wasn’t palatable for most. But in challenge, Polyform Labs sees opportunity, and we began exploring a use case with a VERY high threshold for nonsense: children's stories. Anyone with a kid knows that they have their favourite stories, the ones you read again and again. These parents also know that kids love iPads. We decided to marry these two things with the magic of generative Ai and Faible was born.
DEFINE THE LENGTH, CHARACTERS, LOCATION, MORAL, & MORE...
In our Discovery phase we explored everything that makes making your own stories a magical experience. We discovered that for most kids & parent the real magic of Faible comes in it's ability to tune your story to the desires of your child, providing the guard rails that Ai needs to have a favourable outcome. Instead of confusing "prompt engineering" and the intimidation of a blank page, we developed a a finite amount of options in the key areas necessary to tell a good story.
In Faible you select the character types: humans, dogs, monsters, robots, etc. Then you choose a location, which might be underwater, on the moon, or in an office. Then comes the art style, which we based on well known kids' favourites like Disney, Pixar, Anime, or Claymation. Finally, the most important section is the moral of your story, here there are MANY options to choose with the goal of helping parents teach their kids the lessons they need to know to navigate this confusing and ever changing world that they're growing up in.
EXPAND FAVOURITES WITH NEW EPISODES, PRINT VERSIONS, & COMMUNITY REMIXING
Once rendered, parents and kids can re-roll any image, block of text, or the whole story. When you LOVE it you can save it to your collection, share it with the community, read it at bedtime, and if it's a hit you can even get it printed as a hard-cover keepsake using out print-on-demand services. The community centre provides an endless library of stories and inspiration for your own adventures. If you love a story created by someone else you can add it to your own collection where you can then remix it to your hearts content!
Speaking of remixing; when a child comes across a story they want to read again and again and again, creating NEW stories based on the same character, their friends, locations, etc. is as easy as creating a "new episode" or even a "prequel episode" with a single tap. This will prompt the system to create new stories, or stories from the past that continue on the tale of a child favourite characters, and gives parents something new to read!
